Getting a Work-Out!
Written by Ellen on July 25, 2008 – 3:30 pm -
Now that I’ve mastered rolling (well, at least mastered going one direction), I spend a lot of time thinking about and trying to crawl! Sometimes I get onto my hands and knees and rock back and forth, back and forth, back and forth . . . Other times I push up on my hands and slide my legs around . . . And I also, like in this picture, will push up on my hands and stretch out my legs so I’m on my tiptoes! Mommy and Daddy say it looks like I’m doing a push-up. I do get quite a workout whenever I play on my big blue blanket!

Golfing with Mason
Written by Ellen on July 19, 2008 – 8:30 pm -
Today was Daddy’s birthday! We just got back from a fun evening with Mason and his Mommy and Daddy. We went to eat at Joe’s Crab Shack since Daddy really likes seafood. I took a nap there since I can’t eat seafood. Then we went to East Peoria to go miniature golfing. They had fun golfing while Mason and I sat in our strollers and watched. We also watched them eat ice cream. Then we called it a night because our Daddies have to get up early to play in the Worship Team at church.

New Salem
Written by Ellen on July 18, 2008 – 10:58 pm -
Today I went to New Salem with Grandma Ruth, my great aunt and uncle Mary and Ray and three of their granddaughters. Oh, yeah, mommy and daddy came, too. Grandma rode in the back seat with me. It was pretty hot when we got there. I slept for a while in my stroller then just enjoyed the sights. This picture is while we waited for Ray, Daddy, Kelsie and Kayla to go down to the mill and back. I was supposed to be eating, but instead Grandma and I played with all the great stuff she has in her purse! We all went back to Grandma’s to eat supper – a birthday meal for Daddy. Mommy tells me he’s kind of old, but I don’t know exactly how old. . .

Playing at Home
Written by Ellen on July 14, 2008 – 2:41 pm -
Another busy weekend! Friday night Mommy and Daddy loaded up Daddy’s Envoy with garage sale stuff. I barely fit in myself! We took it all over to Grandma Ruth’s house to price it and set it up. We didn’t leave until after 10 o’clock! Saturday, while Mommy went to a baby shower, Daddy and I headed for Grandma Ruth’s again to help Aunt Priscilla, cousin Anna and Grandma man the sale. Someone offered to buy me! But Daddy wouldn’t hear of it. I didn’t nap much that day. After we ate Monical’s pizza and headed home we all went to bed early.
Mommy got me ready for church Sunday. I listened to Daddy play bass then got fussy because I was tired but wouldn’t let myself fall asleep. After church Mommy took me to Walmart where I fell asleep in the cart. But 20 minutes later when we got home, I woke up again. I take a lot of cat-naps; that’s what Mommy and Daddy call them. Later we went to Uncle Evan & Aunt Emily’s to see them and cousin Isaiah. They played games, and I played with some of Isaiah’s old toys (when I wasn’t fussy). I only took a short nap there, too!
Today I’m back home playing with my own toys. I like my exersaucer (if only I could figure out how to get that butterfly to come off)! I took a really good nap this afternoon – first one since Friday. Mommy thinks it’s good for me to sleep, but I don’t want to miss out on anything!

Toes!
Written by Ellen on July 7, 2008 – 2:19 pm -
I’ve been noticing my toes lately, but I have not been able to get to them! Well, the other night I was playing with Grandma. She was holding me on her stomach while she was laying down. It made it easy for me to reach them – not only with my hands but with my mouth! I was fascinated by them. Can’t wait for when I can grab them while I’m laying down!

4th of July Weekend
Written by Kevin on July 7, 2008 – 12:07 pm -
I experienced my first 4th of July. Mommy, Daddy and I spent the day on the riverfront in Peoria with Grandpa and Grandma. Uncle Evan, Aunt Emily and Isaiah and Uncle Mike, Aunt Trish, Isabella and Lili joined us for some of it too. Mostly, I laid on a blanket and played. The fireworks were fun. I’ve never seen anything like that before. Daddy was impressed that I wasn’t scared one bit–even by the loud booms!
On Saturday, Mommy, Daddy and I went with Grandpa and Grandma to my cousin Lisa’s wedding. Actually, Lisa’s Mommy and my Grandpa are cousins, but Daddy gets too confused trying to figure out what the actual term for us is. Also, Lisa (and her sister Vanessa) were roommates with my cousin Erin at Trinity University. And Lisa’s husband played football with Erin’s boyfriend Manny! There’s lots of connections. The wedding was nice. I fell asleep during the reception so I didn’t get a chance to dance with Mommy. Maybe the next wedding. . .
That night I actually slept in Grandpa and Grandma’s hotel room. I tend to be a loud sleeper so that gave Mommy and Daddy and chance to sleep. It was fun. Grandpa and I “stayed up” to watch a Western on TV. I don’t know who fell asleep first!
On Sunday, we went shopping on the way home. I got to ride around in my stroller. Mommy bought me some new clothes for camping this summer. That way I will stay nice and warm in Rocky Mountain National Park. Grandma bought me clothes too but I’m not allowed to see them yet since they are for my birthday!
It was a fun weekend.
Oh yeah, I made a cool discovery too. But I’ll save that for another blog post!

Who Do I Look Like?
Written by Kevin on July 3, 2008 – 6:32 pm -People wonder who I look like. . . my Mommy or Daddy? I look like both. Daddy helped me get pictures of Mommy and him when they were babies and put them next to mine. Daddy’s really old. . . his pictures aren’t even in color.
Here’s Daddy’s birth announcement picture next to a picture of me taken later the day I was born.

Bananas, Sweet Potatoes & More
Written by Kevin on July 3, 2008 – 5:11 pm -
Mommy decided a few weeks ago that it was time for me to eat more than just formula. She began with rice cereal. It took me a few times to get the hang of eating with a spoon, but I do pretty good now. After I figured it out, I got bananas. And after a few days of bananas, Daddy broke out the sweet potatoes! Yummy. There aren’t too many Mathewsons who like sweet potatoes. Grandma, Daddy, my cousin Erin and I like them. And so does my cousin Ben’s girlfriend, Nicole. We’ll just have a party together! I’ve also eaten peaches and squash. I’m getting better and better at eating with a spoon but I’m still pretty messy. Yesterday at my checkup, Dr. Beaty told Mommy she could let me eat part of a goldfish cracker so I could begin to get used to dry food. All I know is that as soon as my tooth comes in. . . watch out!

Checkin’ In with Dr. Beaty
Written by Ellen on July 2, 2008 – 9:30 am -
I went to see Dr. Beaty again today for my six month check up! I weigh 18 pounds and 6.4 ounces. I am 26 1/4″ long which is still the 40th percentile. My weight is in the 64th percentile, though. Guess that means I’m what they call “chubby”. Mommy and Daddy are always making comments about my “chunky thighs” and my “big, fat belly” . . . It’s hard on my self-image. Dr. Beaty was nicer; he called me a “solid boy”.
Anyway, he said everything else looks good, too. He thinks my muscle tone is above average for a six month old (even one not born early). No one really would know anymore that I was so early!
Next goal: sitting up by myself. I’ll keep ya posted on that!
