Going to the Doctor’s

Written by Kevin on January 30, 2008 – 8:20 pm -

I had my first Doctor’s appointment yesterday with Dr. Beaty. He’s very nice even though he made me cry when he checked me all out. He said I was doing very good for my age and size. I still will have to wear my monitor for at least six more weeks.

Dr. Beaty also said that Mommy and Daddy can feed me more milk at each feeding. I like that! In fact, I slept better last night because my tummy was even more full. Daddy and Mommy slept better too!

Church

Written by Kevin on January 27, 2008 – 8:18 pm -

Today, I had my first outing. Mommy and Daddy took me to church. Daddy had to leave really early because he played his bass on Sunday so he got up and fed me before he left at 6am. I made Daddy late when I peed on myself as he was changing my diaper. I thought it was funny!

Mommy got me up and ready and we went to church. I saw a lot of people who had been praying for me. And I listened to my Daddy play bass. I like music.

I also got to see my friend Mason. He was born on January 17th. He was supposed to be older than I was but he’s still a lot bigger. Someday we will play together.

Goodnight Adam

Written by Kevin on January 27, 2008 – 8:17 pm -

My first night in my own bed. Yippee! Actually I didn’t sleep too well and neither did Mommy or Daddy. I was a little fussy but you would be too if you got circumcised and had a shot in the same day!

I did a little better last night. I don’t think Mommy or Daddy did though. They have to get up every three hours to feed me. Mommy gets the 11:30pm and 2:30am feedings and Daddy takes the 5:30am feeding. Sometimes if I cry, Daddy gets up and comes and rubs my back.

Home at Last!

Written by Kevin on January 26, 2008 – 8:16 pm -

I made it! I’m home! Mommy and Daddy brought me home about 8:30 last night. It was cold outside but they put lots of blankets on me to keep me warm.

The nurses measured me before they let me go. I weighed 2500 grams (5lbs 8ozs) and was 46cm long (18in).

The first thing I did when I got home was eat! Then I laid down in my new bed. It’s a lot bigger than my bed at the hospital.

I still have to eat every 3 hours so Mommy and Daddy got up during the night to feed me. I didn’t sleep real well (and neither did Mommy or Daddy). I think it was because I was circumcised yesterday and I also had a shot to protect me from RSV. Hopefully I’ll do better today and tonight and Mommy and Daddy can get some sleep.

The Magic Diaper

Written by Kevin on January 26, 2008 – 8:14 pm -

Yesterday I was circumcised. The doctor said that as soon as I went pee I could go home. That was at 3:00pm. Mommy and Daddy came back to the hospital at 5:30pm and I was still dry. They cheered me on all night. Finally they went to the cafeteria to get supper at 7:oopm. And when they came back at 7:45pm they found a wet diaper! They were so happy. Daddy even gave my a celebratory fist bump. Mommy didn’t waste anytime packing my things up and getting me hooked up to my new monitor and in my car seat. They couldn’t wait to get me home.

Coming Home!

Written by Kevin on January 25, 2008 – 1:38 pm -

That’s me in my car seat. I was being tested to make sure I didn’t stop breathing while in the seat. But I passed just fine. Then after that the nurse told Mommy and Daddy that I get to come home! They were so excited. I’ll tell you more about it later, but right now I have to rest up for my big trip.

Thumb Sucking and More. . .

Written by Kevin on January 24, 2008 – 1:32 pm -

I may get to go home soon. I’m starting to eat more. Sometimes I’m still not coordinated enough but everybody says I’ll figure it out. I’m going to try taking a bottle every time someone feeds me. If I can do that for two days in a row then I get to go home.

Daddy tried to feed me yesterday. He didn’t do so good a job. Mommy’s better. But if I get hungry enough I’ll take a bottle from Daddy.

Daddy and Grandma Mathewson took a CPR class yesterday. Mommy doesn’t need to since she’s a nurse. Grandpa and Grandma Robertson took the class on Monday. Now everybody knows what to do if I stop breathing.

My favorite part of yesterday was finding my thumb. I was getting hungry and the nurse hadn’t brought my food yet so I did the next best thing. I sucked my thumb. It made me feel better. Grandma and Daddy thought it was cute.

Toe Time

Written by Kevin on January 23, 2008 – 1:31 pm -

Mommy is fascinated with my feet. She likes a little “toe time” everyday when she can play with my little feet and toes. But she better enjoy them while they are little because I’m a growing boy and I get bigger everyday.

Yesterday I pulled out my feeding tube. So the nurses left it out on the condition I eat all my milk from a bottle. I made it to four whole bottles in a row! But I didn’t do so well on the fifth one and then I scared everybody with a brady. So the feeding tube went back in. I am getting better at eating so next time it comes out it’s coming out for good!

No "Brady"s!

Written by Kevin on January 22, 2008 – 1:30 pm -

I wish I could say that about the Superbowl. But I can say that about my last 5 bottle feedings. A brady is short for bradycardia which is a long word for when my heart slows down to under 100 beats per minute. It’s not supposed to do that. Because I’m so little sometimes I need help getting my heart to beat faster again. And sometimes I get so involved in eating I forget to breathe and then it makes me brady and everybody freaks out (actually just Daddy does that. . . everyone else remains calm) . But not today! I’m getting better at eating. The nurses say I still have to go home on a monitor to watch my heart rate and breathing.

The Superbowl

Written by Kevin on January 22, 2008 – 1:28 pm -

Daddy promised to watch the Superbowl with me. That means I have to be home in two weeks. I think I can make it. Today I weighed 5 lbs 3 oz. I’ve already outgrown preemie diapers and am using up the newborn size as fast as I can! And I ate better than I did yesterday. I took 5 of 8 feedings by bottle. I think it’s because Sheila was my nurse. She is a friend of Mommy’s and she is really nice.
